Hemicellulase (HemiSEB® brand) is a special enzyme complex that is capable of breaking the alpha 1-6 glycosidic bonds found in legume sugars (oligosaccharides). These sugars, namely raffinose, stachyose, pentosans, etc., are not digestible in the small intestine due to a lack of the enzymes necessary for hydrolysis. They pass through the small intestine and enter the large intestine where they undergo fermentation by microbial flora. The result of this fermentation is gas and bloating. The enzymes present in HemiSEB hydrolyze oligosaccharides, hemicelluloses and pectins.  Therefore, HemiSEB provides nutritional support in the digestion of complex sugars, particularly those found in legumes and grains.*  These include non-starch polysaccharides (NSP’s), galactosidase and other anti-nutritive factors. HemiSEB also contains the enzyme phytase.  The vegetarian diet often does not provide adequate amounts of bio-available phosphorus.  Phytase makes phosphorus available to the body by hydrolyzing the phytate bond.
